Super cute felt animals

You all know how much I love sewing with felt so it’s probably no surprise that I have been eagerly awaiting the second book by Laura Howard who blogs at bugsandfishes. Super Cute Felt Animals features 35 bright and appealing animals from the land, sea and air, to make.

I packed the book to take with us on our weekend away and I really enjoyed looking through it. As you can see I took enough supplies so I was able to make some animals when the children finally went to sleep.

Woodland creatures include a crafty fox and her cute cubs, a sweet hedgehog, and extras such as a toadstool and acorns to complete the woodland scene. Go on a felt safari to see lions with golden manes, zebras, and hippos that you can recreate in colourful fabric. From under the sea, there are whales, seahorses, and jellyfish, along with a set of fish and their fry, with sequins for scales. On the farm, cows, pigs, and ducks are joined by a chicken and chicks, while in the garden, there’s everything from insects to frogs and birds to be made. Pets are included – from rabbits to guinea pigs, plus a dog and puppies.

This is a lovely book, perfect for all skill levels although you may need to stock up on your sequins and seed beads to give your projects that extra sparkle! Each project is well laid out with detailed instructions. There’s also a handy guide to types of stitches if you need a little help and templates are included (at the right size too, so no need for enlarging!).

I particularly love the fact that each project is versatile and can be made as a gift or adapted to make keepsakes such as brooches, key rings and even mobiles.

Super Cute Felt Animals by Laura Howard is published by CICO Books at £12.99, and is available from all good bookshops or call 01256 302699.
