Where we meet Sportacus!

This morning we set off on an adventure into central London to meet Sportacus, the star of LazyTown. For nearly ten years superhero Sportacus has got the world’s children moving, dancing, singing and playing along with his colourful cartoon-come-to-life LazyTown.  Now he’s back to inspire kids to feel good about doing healthy things in a brand new series of adventures as the much-awaited third series of LazyTown makes its debut on Cartoonito on Saturday April 6 at 9am, repeated at 4pm.

Lazytown

Created by and starring Icelandic entrepreneur and athlete Magnús Scheving, LazyTown follows the adventures of super-fit superhero Sportacus, pink-haired Stephanie (played by young actress Chloe Lang), lazy villain Robbie Rotten (Stefan Karl Steffanson) and the zany inhabitants of the fictional LazyTown.  As Stephanie and her puppet friends – Ziggy, Pixel, Trixie and Stingy – try to go about their daily lives, bothersome baddie Robbie Rotten is always on hand to try to ruin their peace with a cunning plan.  But fortunately LazyTown is under the watchful eye of Sportacus, an athletic superhero who flies to the rescue in his futuristic airship.  Running, jumping, flipping and flying, Sportacus always manages to save the day and help the kids of LazyTown foil Robbie’s latest lazy schemes.

In these brand new episodes, LazyTown is better and brighter than ever before!  Sportacus has a brand new costume, courtesy of the creators of the Batman costume, complete with a multisports backpack and a SportsCandy Energy Level Indicator.  Aspiring dancer Stephanie is in the groove in every episode, teaching viewers the steps to the regular music video feature.  And Robbie Rotten is just as rotten as ever – creating an evil superhero robot, stealing Pixel’s magic helmet and coming up with even more plans to drive Sportacus out of LazyTown.

As well as meeting Sportacus we got the chance to watch a brand new episode from the third season, Roboticus. It’s a brilliant episode and both the children were completely absorbed! Sportacus was also very lovely and energetic in the flesh. As well as signing autographs and posing for photographs (unfortunately not with my shy children) he got everyone up and moving and there was lots of sports candy too.

In case you were wondering where he gets his energy from Magnús Scheving is a former gymnast and aerobics champion, he became European champion in aerobics in 1994 and 1995, and a silver medalist in the aerobics’ World Championship in 1994. As well as many other awards, he also holds six Icelandic Champion titles and was also Nordic Champion.  In 1995, he was voted Athlete of the Year in his home country Iceland. Not a bad role model, eh?

It was a brilliant event and Sportacus was amazing (and made me feel so slovely!). We may have pocketed some sports candy too!

I remember having a chat with Mammasaurus about how hot Magnús Scheving is without all his Sportacus getup on. Seriously, Google image him. NOM!

I don’t think I could take him seriously after seeing him dressed up, especially after seeing the size of his make up bag!
