Reclaim your bag!

Sometimes I really dislike the term mummy. Not when my son is endlessly shouting it at me but when it’s applied to me generically by the nurse, health visitor, midwife, GP, librarian or impersonal PRs!

In a bid to claw some of myself back from being just a mummy I’ve started to invest some time in me for a change. I’m spending more time on my hobbies which keep getting forgotten, drawing up a list of baking projects from some new cook books I’ve received, I have a new hair cut, I’ve cleared out the ‘mummy uniform’ clothes and the next step is to get rid of the ultimate ball and chain- the changing bag.

I’m not quite sure why I felt I had to have a changing bag as really it’s just a bag. It may have been an Orla changing bag but to be honest I never really liked it. So, it’s gone to the shelf of handbags and been replaced with the one I told you about – the Orla of orange goodness. Obviously I couldn’t do away with the contents as those nappies are needed ALL THE TIME! Two children in nappies is no joke and I always carry a couple with me as well as the ubiquitous baby wipes.

nappy purse

You too can now reclaim your bag with this lovely named nappy purse from Ruby and Ginger. They kindly offered me one to try out after I had a moan on twitter about my old changing bag and I absolutely love it! It’s made a big difference to how I feel too as I can now reach into a lovely grown up handbag and pull out the wipes and nappies I need. There are three fabrics to choose from but I have the berries fabric which is so unobtrusive that even my husband is happy to take it on the rare occasions he does a nappy change.

The nappy purse can hold three nappies, a refillable wipes case and has a little pocket for nappy bags, loose change or keys. They are handprinted and handmade and the ultimate fashionable and stylish mother, Danii Minogue, has one and I bet she is a lady with a great handbag collection. They are priced at a very reasonable £13.00.

Ruby and Ginger make lovely products using grown up prints so you don’t have to lose your fashion style just because you’ve become a parent. Products include a cosy car seat cover, nappy purse, changing mat, toy tie, tabards and backpacks.

Day Zero – Month 19 (April)

On the 19 September 2010 I started a Day Zero list: a place to record your goals, discover new challenges, and gain motivation to achieve them. I have a list of 100 things I want to do over 1001 days. The list is due to be competed by 16 June 2013.

Life with two children is hard. I knew it would be but it’s really hard and I don’t seem to have much time for much besides looking after children. There are also lots of fun times though and I’m never happier than when we’re all snuggled up in bed or on the sofa together.

I currently have a 5 and 25 month old. Their needs seem to be similar – constant attention, regular meals, nappy changes and constant entertainment. I can’t quite believe I have two children in nappies who are both teething. This has meant lots of sleepless nights lately, especially as we’ve just taken the sides off the toddlers bed which he seems to regularly fall out of throughout the night.

Anyway, I didn’t write an update for March so this update covers the last two months:

3.     Move house

We’re spending all our spare time looking online for houses then visiting them at weekends. We still want to move this year but are struggling to find an area we’re both happy with.

20. Get Edward christened

We’re working towards getting both children christened this summer. We have godparents, just need to sort the date, outfits, party, etc!

22. Bake 10 different gingerbread recipes. This was easy and when I stopped to count them up I have easily exceeded my aim of 10 recipes:

25. Buy a new Orla Kiely handbag

I’ve managed to do this one AGAIN by buying another beautiful Orla!

38. Do at least one geocache a month for a year

We love geocaching and I’m happy to say we’ve managed this goal. Wherever we go we make sure to see if there are any geocaches, this is great free outdoors entertainment!

39. See Keane play live

My tickets to see Keane in June arrived today which makes me very happy.

74. Pass driving test

I passed my test back in February but today I managed to pluck up the courage to take my husband’s automatic out, not bad considering I learned on a manual. This has also made me happy as it brings me a step closer to being more independent.

I thought I had lost a bit of momentum with my Day Zero list but going through my list has made me realise I’ve done a lot more than I had thought!

Some Orla love

Life just doesn’t stop being hectic lately. I was joking with my husband that I didn’t know what I’d do with my time after I stopped my driving lessons but dental and physio appointments seem to have plugged the gap. To cheer myself up I’ve been doing some online shopping. I have no time for real shopping as it’s pretty impossible with the toddler who gets bored if I so much as look at a clothes shop.

I turned to an old favourite of mine, Zalando, and typed in those two magical words ‘Orla Kiely’ and bingo, a choice of the latest season of yummy bags. Since I purchased a ticket to Cybher I’ve been going through a bit of an image crisis. I felt the same before going to Cybermummy last year. Anyway, one haircut later and I thought some new arm candy would make me feel happy so I opted for this gorgeous Orla Kiely shopping bag in orange.

Orla Kiely shopping bag

I absolutely love it! It’s different to all my other Orla bags and will be great for shopping trips as the handles are lovely and strong. It also features the stem print motif which I adore. They stock some great brands, no Cath Kidston (my second favourite) but the selection of Orla loveliness more than makes up for it. Oh, and I got free shipping too!

Look out for me at Cybher, I don’t think you’ll be able to miss me!
