You probably don’t need me to tell you I love all things gingerbread. Around this time of year there are some lovely products in the shops so today I thought I would tell you about some of my favourite products.
Over the last couple of months I’ve been buying some fun gingerbread products, ranging from baking kits, crafts for the children and even a special limited edition Lego Gingerbread House.
Baking kits
I start thinking about baking gingerbread as soon as the leaves start to fall from the trees. This year we’ve been busy baking and decorating and enjoyed trying some fun baking sets. Some of our favourites include the Cookie Crumbles Fabulous Gingerbread Biscuit Mix. The kit was perfect for baking with my daughter and the whole family enjoyed the flavour and texture of the biscuits.
If you’re looking for a great stocking filler then take a look at our review of the Gingerbread Christmas Biscuit Baking Kit from BKD. The kit contained nearly everything needed to make and decorate the most amazing Christmas biscuits.
If you need a new cutter you may be interested in the Gingerbread House Cookies Cutters from Lakeland which let you create a gingerbread village with 6 different house styles.
I have a few kits to try out and I can’t wait for the children to break up from school so we can try building our Build Your Own Gingerbread Sleigh from John Lewis. We usually build a gingerbread house or two so I’m looking forward to trying something different.
Crafts for kids
This year I have bought lots of fun craft products for the children. We’ve already had fun with our Paper Plate Gingerbread Wreath which was a nice quick make. We’ve already started work on a Story Tales Peg Dolls Gingerbread Man set from Wilko which was amazing value. We also picked up a Cereal Box Gingerbread House kit which I’m looking forward to making with the children.
For the home
This year I added a new gingerbread man plush to my collection with a cute little one from Wilko. They have some great products and seem to be adding new items all the time. I also bought a sweet gingerbread tea light holder from ASDA. I always bring out my tea light village at this time of year and couldn’t resist this to go along with the little gingerbread house candles I found in Tesco.
Last month I made up a sew your own fabric panel from Spoonflower featuring a sweet gingerbread couple which you can read more about here. I also ordered more sew your own fabric featuring festive cookies designed by Mollie Johanson and regular readers will know I love her designs.
For the grown ups
Lego is always popular in our house and for once I was able to find the perfect set, new for this year is the Lego Gingerbread House which I reviewed last week and love.
I bought myself a copy of Gingerbread Wonderland by Mima Sinclair. I love baking books and this contains recipes and instructions for 30 magical houses, biscuits & bakes. There are recipes for a light and dark gingerbread dough and then ideas of delicious things to make from houses, wreaths, a Christmas biscuit tree and a garland. The book then takes it one step further with recipes for more gingerbread themed foods including gingerbread knots, lebkuchen and even a gingerbread syrup. I used the light gingerbread dough recipe to make our Snowman and Snowdog gingerbread biscuits and it was delicious – I can’t wait to try more of the recipes.
This weekend I’m hoping to bake the contents of the My Bakes box collaboration with Maid of Gingerbread. The subscription box included everything necessary to make an amazing gingerbread box which I can’t wait to try – and eat!
I hope you’ve enjoyed my little gift guide and please wish me luck with all my baking endeavours this Christmas.
