Celebrating Christmas with Stick Man

Posted on October 24, 2015August 8, 2021 by jenny

First published in 2008, Stick Man is Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s most festive picture book and is now the latest animated film by the Oscar nominated makers of The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child and Room on the Broom films.

“Stick Man lives in the family tree
With his Stick Lady Love and their Stick Children three.”

But it’s dangerous being a Stick Man. A dog wants to play with him, a swan builds her nest with him. He even ends up on a fire! Will he ever get back to the family tree? Perhaps Father Christmas can help…

Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s most festive picture book is now an animated film by the Oscar-nominated creators of The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child and Room on the Broom films —airing on BBC One this Christmas.

Celebrating Christmas with Stick Man

Starring Martin Freeman as Stick Man, Hugh Bonneville as Santa, Jennifer Saunders as the narrator, Russell Tovey, Rob Brydon and Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins complete the all-star cast of Stick Man.

To celebrate, new gift editions of the book have been created for children, parents and grandparents to celebrate Stick Man being the Christmas story of the year—including a gift hardback with reversible poster cover. We received a copy of the special gift edition  which is lovely. Last year we added Stick Man to the special festive pile of books we read during December and this year we will be looking forward to watching Stick Man on our screens too.

The new Stick Man gift edition hardback from Scholastic has an RRP £12.99, other Stick Man titles include a Stick Man Sticker Activity book RRP £3.99, Stick Man Sound Book RRP £14.99 and Cased Board edition £6.99.

Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler are doing a special book signing in London at Waterstones Piccadilly on Saturday 7th November at 1pm. There will also be the opportunity to see some of Axel’s original artwork from Stick Man. You can find out more information here.

Oh how fantastic! My kids would love this! The Gruffalo has just been translated into our local dialect, which is a little bit awesome too. The new book was launched last weekend.
