Yesterday I told you how much fun we had at the Gruffalo Activity Trail at Wendover Woods. After running about in the woods, building dens, climbing trees and hunting for the Gruffalo we had all built up quite an appetite. We took a picnic as we were out all day and I made a special Gruffalo Bento Box for the children.
I had so much fun putting together the Gruffalo Bento Box that I thought I would share it with you today.
How to make a Gruffalo Bento Box
I knew I wanted to give the children Roasted Fox, Owl Ice Cream and Scrambled Snake to follow the narrative of the story. My children know the story off by heart so I knew I had to recreate it as closely as possible. I used Sistema lunchboxes which have three compartments and food picks from my collection.
For Roasted Fox I used mini sausages and Scrambled Snake was a handful of popcorn.
The night before our trip I made some batches of Purple Prickle Jelly, otherwise known as raspberry jelly, I used containers small enough to fit inside the lunchbox. I also added Poisonous Warts or green grapes and a Gruffalo Crumble Cupcake. I was pretty proud of these, chocolate cupcakes with malt buttercream and crushed Maltesers!
That just left Owl Ice Cream. We made do with ice creams from the ice cream van after the children had completely demolished their Gruffalo Bento Boxes!
