It seems an age ago since we were lucky enough to come across a really cute little wooden doll bed on a recent charity shopping spree. It was quite big but we managed to get it home on the bus, just! We paid £2 and when we got home I realised it was from Ikea and actually retails at £14 so I felt quite proud of our bargain, especially as Little Sis has been playing with it even since.
I knew I wanted to personalise it for her so the first step was to give it a wash, a quick sand and paint it. I have to admit to being anti-pink so we opted for a lavender colour which we mixed ourselves. This has also been used on the little wheelie my clever husband made for her.
The lick of paint made it look much better but it needed something else so I bought a couple of vintage decals from eBay and carefully added them along one end and both sides.
It looks great with bedding made from a vintage cot quilt and both children have been having hours of fun with it.
I heard that Ikea are launching dolls house furniture, tiny versions of their most popular products, including Expedit shelves, the Vago chair, the Lack table, and the Klippan sofa all for just £12. The 1:15 scale replicas will be available in August along with cut-out paper accessories (like clocks and picture frames). I cant wait to get my hands on them, especially as they all come pre-assembled, which means I won’t have to listen to my husband cursing as he builds them!
