Edward and I go swimming each week. I’m not sure if he enjoys it as much as I’d like him too and this may be our last term of swimming for a while. The new term started yesterday so off we went and were very surprised to find the teacher in the pool for once. She usually sits on the side, barking orders and chatting to other members of staff 🙂
The lessons are very formulaic and as Edward only seems to like the jumping and splashing bits we join in when we want. He refuses to wear armbands or use floats and hates being dunked under water. Apparently the 12-18 month age group can be quite difficult during swimming lessons. At that age they can walk so want to feel their feet on the bottom of the pool.
Edward had fun chatting to his friends, splashing, chasing plastic balls and jumping in off the side of the pool. At the end of each lesson all the mums and toddlers sit on the steps at the shallow end of the pool to chat. I was talking to another mum and Edward was playing with the toys when I noticed he had fallen over in the water. My world literally slowed to nothing as I saw Edward splashing and trying to get hold of something to push himself up. It was a horrible moment but only lasted seconds until I grabbed him. He was absolutely fine but my heart was racing!
