I enjoy the splash of colour which Valentine’s Day brings. The kids have been busy making handmade Valentine’s Day gifts and this year came up with a felt heart corner bookmark. These are so much fun to make and give to a friend.
List of supplies:
Felt
Matching embroidery threads
Needle
Pencil or fabric marker
A pair of scissors
How to make felt heart corner bookmarks:
Prepare the template patterns by printing the free heart template sheet, and cutting them out. Select at least 2 different coloured pieces of felt. Trace the patterns on the selected felt fabrics and then cut them out. For each bookmark you will need 2 large heart shapes and one of the smaller heart shapes to create your felt heart corner bookmark.
Take the 2 smallest heart shape and place on the top of the larger one. Choose a contrasting colour of embroidery thread and prepare your needle.
Stitch along the sides of the small heart to join it with the bigger heart shape. When you have finished knot your thread and cut it close to the knot.
Now, place the stitched felt heart piece on the top of the base heart shape.
Stitch along the sides of the stitched felt heart piece to join it with the base heart shape. Make sure it is in the middle of the base shape and use a pin to hold it in place if necessary.
Now, place the two felt heart pieces together making sure the edges line up.
Stitch along the two straight sides of the hearts to join them together using blanket stitch. Keep the round edges open to use the felt heart as a bookmark. Secure the end of the thread by tying a knot and cut off any extra thread.
Place your heart over the edge of your latest book to use as a sweet keepsake bookmark.
