    Shipping forecast quilt

I like to have a few sewing projects on the go. Top of my list is just about any of the projects from Hearty Good Wishes, a beautiful craft book of coastal quilts from Janet Clare. Pre-children I always went to sleep after I had heard the shipping forecast on Radio 4. Now my bed time is much earlier but I do still love to catch the shipping forecast whenever I can. Hearty Good Wishes contains several patterns for quilts and wall hangings and as soon as I saw it I knew I had to make the Good Old Blighty…

    Monday happy things

Goodness me the weeks are going by so quickly. Thankfully my Monday Happy Things post is here to remind me of all the fun things we got up to the previous week. Yesterday my daughter and I spent the day in London. We visited the Museum of Childhood to see Small Stories: At Home in a Dolls’ House. I love dolls houses and this was a beautiful exhibition covering  the small stories of 12 dolls’ houses from the past 300 years. We also saw The Alice Look which was a much smaller display celebrating the 150th anniversary of Alice’s Adventures…

Win a £25 voucher to spend at elephant in my handbag

As you know when I’m not blogging, or crafting with my children, I’m sewing. I always have a few projects on the go and my current project is the Union Flag quilt I’m making for my daughter. I’ve been trying to add some handmade touches to her room so I’m also making a patchwork cover for her vintage Lloyd Loom nursing chair. It was added to her room when we moved 2 years ago but I wanted to match the cover to her pink colour scheme. I found some gorgeous fabrics from elephant in my handbag, an online shop which…

Jenny Makes Mollie Makes star hoop stitch kit

Jenny Makes Mollie Makes star hoop stitch kit from issue 53. There were 3 sweet designs to choose from, a piece of navy blue fabric and a gorgeous turquoise plastic embroidery hoop. Mollie Makes star hoop stitch kit The instructions recommended using coloured transfer paper on to the dark fabric. Unfortunately the kit didn’t include any so I bought a pack of coloured transfer paper from eBay and waited for it to arrive. I used blue transfer paper but it didn’t work at all so I used white transfer paper which worked perfectly. I stitched the pattern in an hour…

    Monday happy things

I’m pleased to say the past week has been slightly less manic as I’ve taken a small step back from blogging and spent more time crafting! Following on from the success of the fairy garden we built in our garden I wrote 10 top tips for creating a fairy garden which was published on Female First. Take a look if you’re thinking of building your own! We’re huge fans of Miffy so I was pretty excited the miffy bento lunch I made for my children was shared on the miffy blogs too. You can see my original blog post about…

    Monday happy things

Monday again? So soon? – Over the weekend the kids met their favourite Nick Jr characters in Nickelodeon Land at the Pleasure Beach in Blackpool. Little Sis had her photo taken with Poppy Cat and my 5 year old met the Ninja Turtles. Both were very very happy. This is my favourite photo from our weekend. – I’ve been working on a new patchwork project with some pretty pink fabrics from the fabric shop elephant in my handbag. I think this may be the first patchwork project which isn’t a quilt so I’m quite excited to show you my progress…

    Monthly Makes – April

I think April may hold the record for speeding by the quickest. It seems like only yesterday I was turning over a new page of our monthly calender, a Minion one in case you were wondering. This month I’ve managed a little bit of sewing, mainly for the two swaps I participated in. First there was the UK Mini Swap for a sweet little quilt which I wrote about here. There was also Round 6 of the Fabric ATC swap organised by Very Berry Handmade. The ATC measured only 2.5 x3.5 inches and I made a tiny row of terraced…

    Miffy matchbox bed

A few days ago we made some little Miffy figures from air drying clay and our Miffy cookie cutters. We love crafting with air drying clay as it’s so easy to use and pretty kid friendly. We left them to dry overnight. The next day the children decorated them with acrylic paint and colouring pens. The other day we covered some matchboxes with pretty papers and my 3 year old wanted to use them to make a Miffy matchbox bed. I added eyelets and small lengths of ricrac to one end to make it easier for her little fingers to…
