    Bad news

This afternoon I was booked in for another scan, I thought to check the growth of the baby. I had a lovely sonographer but her English wasn’t great.  So when she said things such as ‘there’s a lot of fluid’ I asked for clarification. I was referred to the doctor who was eventually able to explain that the baby was breech and there was more amniotic fluid than expected (which is why I look bigger than I should). We agreed to try an ECV next week to try and turn the baby. The doctor  then noticed that my scan showed…

    Easter craftyness

Today was the second day of our NCT ante natal class. It was much better than last week and we discussed pain relief, how to wash a baby, how to change a baby’s nappy and how to put a baby to bed and how many layers to use. I especially liked the part where we split into two groups after lunch. We discussed what to pack in our hospital bags, leaking, cutting, tearing and whether we should purchase sieves and mirrors for childbirth, whilst the men discussed post natal depression. There was a great moment when one of the men…

    High blood pressure

I had my 36 week appointment with the midwife today. I wasn’t anticipating any problems and was looking forward to discussing my swollen feet which are giving me so much grief. All my tests results have come back completely normal, even the PLG and the extra growth scan I had in week 30. Today my blood pressure was really high and I’m booked in for another growth scan. The baby’s spine is also aligned with my spine so I have to do an exercise which involves getting down on all fours five times a day to try and turn it.…

    NCT ante natal class

I noticed some recent discussions about ante natal classes today so it seems like a good opportunity to think about the first NCT ante natal class we went to on Monday. We always wanted to attend the NCT classes. Some of our closest friends rave about the friends they met on the course they did in Southampton. They meet at least once a week for coffee, attend each others birthday parties and have been providing a rota of cooked meals for the families who are having their second children! So after our booking-in appointment at the local hospital we were…

    Pregnancy books

A selection of my pregnancy books. I haven’t read them all yet but I’ve bought them because they’ve been recommended to me. My favourite is What to Expect When You’re Expecting as  I like to read about weekly developments. I’ve just bought The Baby Diaries by Tess Daly which I’m hoping to read when I start my maternity leave soon. Friday was spent interviewing for my maternity cover. It was a strange experience but we were fortunate to have really good candidates to choose between. Our choice was between two competent people but it’s been left to me to decide.…

    Another week nearer

Eek, another Monday means another step nearer my due date! I am not feeling ready at all but then I think once the baby is here I’ll probably forget all about being pregnant. I am feeling very Incredibly Hulk-like. None of my clothes fit over the bump and today I had to give in and buy some comfortable shoes which can accommodate my fat feet. I also seem to have caught my first illness since I got pregnant – a common cold. So altogether grumpy and feeling very unattractive. Anyway, I saw this over the weekend which made me smile.…

    Blakeney

We had a couple of days away in Blakeney, Norfolk, before we become a three. The hotel was lovely and we got lots of fresh sea air exploring Cromer, then Holt and even fitting in a castle and a geocache. I’m really feeling the 33 weeks now though, tearful for the first time too, over everything.

    Orla Kiely changing bag

Look at this beauty! A changing bag from my favourite handbag designer Orla Kiely. I saw it in John Lewis a couple of weeks ago and promised myself I would treat myself to it. But now the time has come to buy the last few bits and pieces I just can’t bring myself to pay the hefty price tag. Yesterday I googled changing bags and read some reviews. It seems a bucket may be more useful than a beautifully crafted bag with inner pockets, mobile pocket and key chain. Today I also realised something I had been trying to ignore.…

    Dos and Don'ts

Things that have happened over the last few days: I watched One Born Every Minute and dreamt I was in labour all night I had an eye test  which I booked last week (who knew that during pregnancy your eyes could change so actually there was no point) The optician called me heavily pregnant which I wasn’t happy to hear (in my mind my bump is neat) At work the chair assessor came to see me to give me a new chair (even though I only have 10 days left at work and contacted him before Christmas) Apparently you shouldn’t wear…
