We were lucky to have time to visit the bustling fishing town of Brixham. We’ve been meaning to visit for years and finally found we had a couple of hours spare. It’s a really lovely town, some great independent shops, brilliant charity shops and lots of cafes so you can sit and watch the boats in the harbour.
Although our primary purpose wasn’t to look round the charity shops my poor daughter gave me a very good reason. She had a nuclear nappy explosion which resulted in my throwing away the clothes she was wearing. Now when I go charity shopping I always see lots of babygros when I don’t need them. You can guess when I needed to buy one today I didn’t find a single one!
Anyway, Brixham has a couple of charity shops tucked away amongst the steep streets leading down to the harbour. I found a couple of vintage toys in the RSPCA, Brixham Does Care charity shop and Macmillan Cancer Support. Each shop was packed full of my kind of finds – vintage china, fabrics, toys and sewing notions. I could have spent a good hour browsing but as I was supposed to be searching for a babygro I had to make do with a quick dash in and out. All my purchases were reasonably priced and I was in heaven!
My poor daughter wrapped in her cashmere blanket and sun hat!
After Brixham we went for a Devon cream tea at the Berry Head Hotel – well worth it for the stunning views over Torbay.
