Did you know that today people around the world are celebrating Earth Day to demonstrate support for environmental protection? The theme is – What everyday small changes can we make to help make a difference to the environment? To help celebrate I’ve been offered an Earth Day kit which one of my readers has the chance to win. The fun kit includes:
A blackboard made from recycled coffee cups
A cardboard rocket for the children – and eco-paints so the whole family can get involved too
A selection of P&G products
Big changes don’t have to start with grand acts; they can start much closer to home. Like, choosing to walk to the shops instead of taking the car. Or, using a recyclable water bottle instead of using a plastic one each time you’re on the go.
In fact, 81% of Brits say that even simple, everyday actions help them feel like they’re making a contribution to the environment.
To help inspire these acts, P&G have launched a video called Everyday Earth Day:
I hope the video inspires you to discover how your own everyday actions can have a surprisingly positive impact on the environment.
I have been given one an Earth Day kit to giveaway (containing the products mentioned above) to a lucky reader of the gingerbread house. If you would like to win simply watch the video and answer this question in a comment below:

Last month I reviewed folk art needlework, a really beautiful craft book, packed full of 35 projects inspired by traditional motifs from across the globe. There are lots of lovely projects in this book (all added to my to-do list!) and I’ve actually begun a hand-tied quilt. I love this way of finishing off a quilt and think it looks great as the fabric can really stand out. Of course, it doesn’t involve much embroidery but there are plenty of other projects which do.
I love vintage embroidery and can’t wait to make a start on some embroidery projects of my own and learn more about different stitches. This seems to be a great book for beginners like myself as well as inspiration for more advanced sewers.
Do you fancy trying some of the projects for yourself and learning more about embroidery from around the world?
I have been given one copy of folk art needlecraft to giveaway. If you would like to win simply answer this very easy question:

To celebrate its 20th birthday, Carex has launched a nationwide competition to reward 20 busy pairs of hands around the UK!
The Carex Live Life Hands On Awards celebrate all the wonderful things that we do with our hands.
Carex wants people to share a day in the life of their hands, showcasing the real life moments that hands unlock, every single day. Entries can be a couple of sentences, a short written diary, some photos or even video footage. The competition is open to everyone, from busy mums, professional gardeners and nursery nurses to dustbin men, gymnasts, mechanics and lollipop ladies. You have until the 10th June 2013 to get your entry in.
Carex will pick 20 of the most compelling entries to each win £500 worth of Red Letter Day vouchers, plus a year’s supply of Carex hand wash.
