What I’m reading: ‘Tis the Season to be Felty

It seems a while since I shared a great craft book with you. Have you started your Christmas crafting yet? Are you making any handmade gifts this year? I’m not making any big gifts but I’ve made some small decorations.

I’ve always enjoyed working with felt so when I read about ‘Tis the Season to be Felty I knew I would be pre-ordering a copy. It’s a follow up to Fa la la la Felt! which came out a few years ago and many of the same designers have contributed to the 40+ projects in this book.

As soon as the book arrived I sat down and started book marking all the projects I wanted to make. There are some gorgeous projects by my favourite designers including Laura Howard, Mollie Johnson and Aimee Ray.

The book is divided into three sections called Ornaments, Decorations and Stockings & More. There are plenty of gingerbread patterns including gingerbread village ornaments and a cute gingerbread house tissue box cover which I’ve already made.

I also used the sweet treats ornaments pattern to whip up these felt sweets for a handmade ornament swap.

There are lots of other things I would love to make, from a clove-filled orange pomander ornament to a holly leaf and berry garland and so much more. I’m trying not to overload myself this year so I’m not taking part in any more swaps or gift exchanges. However, this is a lovely book and I know I will be stitching a few more cute felt items in the coming evenings.

Love the sound of this book. Is it for beginners like me?

Yes! I think anyone can sew with felt as it doesn’t fray. The projects are perfect for an evening or two.
