There’s something about January that makes me want to stay in and hibernate with some sewing. It’s been so cold that I’ve been quite happy to spend my evenings working on my Union flag quilt – a gift for my 3 year old – hopefully before she leaves home. I’ve seen real progress with it this month and it’s grown quite a lot. I’ve also incorporated some fabrics from her old baby clothes so it’s turning into a real heirloom piece which I hope she will treasure. You can’t really see the scale of it from a photograph but each hexagon measures 1.5 inches.
Earlier this month I attended a Hand Stamped Silver Jewellery workshop at the London Jewellery School. A lot of information was packed into 2 hours but I learned a lot and came home with two super sweet silver keyrings.
I stitched a sweet little lantern embroidery for Chinese New Year from a pattern by Mollie Johanson.
I also had a go at making some button brooches as I won a brooch making kit from Handmade by Mrs M.
We also managed to squeeze in a visit to the Watts Gallery. Galleries can be a bit hit and miss with a 3 and 4 year old but we did the family trail and managed to look at some of the beautiful paintings.
It’s been lovely to try some new things this month and also have some old favourites to pick up and work on. Bring on February!

I love the Union flag quilt and the fact that you used some old baby clothes. I’ve recently read a book with little man in which the grandmother made a similar quilt for the granddaughter and it was truly special x
