Making It! by Mollie Makes

Posted on August 8, 2014August 11, 2014 by jenny

A while ago I set up my own Etsy shop to sell vintage supplies such as Scrabble tiles and playing cards. I’ve had a couple of sales, and I have plenty of stock which needs to be listed. I really want to push my little shop to the next level so was excited to see a new book from Mollie Makes. Called Making It! the hard facts you need to start your own craft business, this book sounded perfect for me.

I’m a huge fan of Mollie Makes. As well as my monthly subscription to their lovely lifestyle and craft magazine I also love their bookazines so I knew this book would be well written and informative.

Mollie Makes Making It

Whether you’re a sewing supremo or a master knitter – you can make a living by loving hand-made. Making It! is the essential guide to starting and running a craft business, perfect for those who want to take their crafting one step further and turn it from a hobby into a money-making operation.

From research, brand development and financing through to marketing and selling your creations – every aspect of setting up a successful craft business is covered. And with useful sections on legal advice, copyright and basic accounting you’ll find out how to avoid potential minefields.

The books draws on the experience and and success stories from established craft peeps such as Gillian Gladrag, Jane Foster, Folksy, and Etsy who will inspire you to start your own craft (ad)venture.

This little book packs a pleasing punch of information and advice. I found the chapters really useful and touched on all kinds of topics I had never thought about. It’s well laid out with tips and suggestions for finding out more information and I like the illustrations which help to break up the text. I would recommend this little book for any crafter looking to set up or expand their handmade business. I’m looking forward to absorbing the information and growing my little shop.

Making It! by Mollie Makes was published in May 2014 by Collins & Brown (Pavillion) priced £14.99

I’ve been busy this summer making tablet and laptop cases – had been looking at local craft fairs but at £20-25 per table I’m not sure I could take the plunge! Have been thinking of selling through Etsy and would love more tips on the trade – will definitely be adding this to my to-buy pinterest board!! Thanks for the review!

That looks like a really useful book, and beautifully designed too! Sadly I’m far too clumsy to do what you do! Hope it helps you to expand!

I love craft stuff, I think anyone who enjoys making items should try selling them. I always look for something different when buying. Good luck to anyone having a go.
