A fun day out in London

It’s hard to believe the summer holidays are nearly over. I have to admit to dreading the thought of 6 weeks with two small children but we’ve survived. This year we had a staycation as we’re on a budget, having moved house earlier this year. We’ve had some great days out in London and further afield and decided to treat ourselves to one last day out before thinking about the toddler starting nursery next month.

It’s never a difficult decision if you ask the toddler what he would like to do. Of course he chose a trip to the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden. There’s so much to do, they run special activities during the school holidays and there’s a cafe too.

I’ve just started using a new card called Kalixa Pay, it’s a combined contactless prepaid MasterCard and account, and I used it several times on our trip. First of all I needed to buy a ticket for the tube, the toddler was excited to be at the station and really didn’t stop talking from this point until he got home! We took the tube to Covent Garden and again used the card to purchase our ticket to the London Transport Museum. After both the children had run round for a couple of hours and exhausted themselves we bought lunch in the cafe there, again using the Kalixa Pay card.

There weren’t any toys the children wanted in the museum gift shop but they were happy to head out to the Pizza to look round the shops. Both children seem to be developing a Disney obsession so they were very happy to be allowed to look round the Disney Store and chose a toy each. The toddler picked a set of two planes from the new Disney Planes film. His sister chose a Minnie Mouse colouring set and I paid with my Kalixa Pay card.

We were all beginning to feel a little tired by this point so headed back to the tube station, stopping off at Waterstones to buy some new sticker books. Little Sis was very happy to snuggle in her Bugaboo Bee and was asleep before we got back on the tube. We had a great day out and it was lovely to spend some time in Covent Garden. It’s a great place for children, with museum, shops, cafes and especially all the street performers.

I found the Kalixa Pay card easy to load and use. Before I left for the day I made sure it had plenty of funds which I then used all day to buy tickets, lunch and treats for the children without any problems. I love the idea of a pre-paid card, it’s great for helping you manage your money as you can only spend what you’ve loaded onto your card, so you can’t overspend!

If that wasn’t enough Kalixa Pay will send you a free email or SMS alert every time you use your card (for purchases over £5) detailing what you have spent and your account balance ensuring you always keep on track of your spending whilst away. The Kalixa Pay prepaid MasterCard, including the eWallet service, is available for a one-off payment of £6.95.
