book review competition crafts Day Zero handmade

A book, some sewing and a competition

We’ve had an amazingly busy weekend. It was lovely to do some non-house related stuff and we had a great day out in London as well as a fun playdate with friends.

Somehow I managed to finish the latest BritMums bookclub book – Ancient Lights by John Banville. It was the strangest book I’ve read in a long time. The main character of the book is a complete narcissist and I found him difficult to like. He was very wordy too…. Anyway, the premise is that in a small town in Ireland in the 1950s a fifteen-year-old boy has illicit meetings with a thirty-five year old woman, who is also the mother of his best friend. The book is written years later, as he grieves for his only daughter, as he tries to understand the boy he was.

I’ve also been looking through my Day Zero actions as my completion date is Sunday (not sure where those 1001 days went!). I thought I would make a small Union flag as I’ve been trying my hand at fabrics ATCs recently. It’s very small but perfectly formed and it felt great to do some sewing.

I thought I would share a really fun competition with you. It launched today and is only running until the 24th June. There are some amazing prizes up for grabs including:

Sunday Jazz cruise on the Thames for Two
Oval Star Cufflinks from Liberty of London
Baz Luhrmann’s Epic Romances box set
Silver Plated Faux Pearl & Diamante Collar Necklace
Black and Silver Beaded Headband
Red Feather Boa

It’s really easy to enter, all you need to do is guess the current box office film from the contents of the bathroom cabinet (pictured below).
