Keeping the mess in

Posted on May 2, 2013May 7, 2016 by jenny

So far we’ve only discovered one problem with our lovely new house. The previous occupants took all the blinds with them when they moved. They were perfectly entitled to do this but it has left us feeling a little ‘exposed’ to our neighbours, especially in the evenings.

Today we ventured to the local high street. We did some shopping (top of the toddlers list was ‘bubbles’) and stopped for a cup of tea in the strangest coffee shop-inside-a-department-store you’ll ever see inside the M25. I was allowed a very quick look around a charity shop which was curtailed by the toddler knocking over a mannequin….

Anyway, after two nights of sleeping in a room without blinds it was clear that something had to be done. We made sure the children had blackout blinds as they need their routines. Luckily we’re both tired from unpacking but top of our list is searching Web-Blinds. I’m currently sitting in our lounge typing this but I need to put the lights on as it’s getting dark. I need blinds, not just for some privacy but also so I can hide the mess from the neighbours for a while longer. As I said yesterday, we’ve made one room liveable but elsewhere we’re still tripping over boxes. We unpacked 37 boxes yesterday, with my husband back at work, I only managed 2 today!

messThe to-do is getting longer. After sorting out the blinds I need the stair gates up as they make life so much easier. After that it’s bedroom furniture as we need three wardrobes, a new bed and bedside tables for us, and lots and lots of hooks so I can hang some of my pictures. It’s amazing how empty a house can look until you start to cover the walls up.

I love this photo I took of Little Sis yesterday. I’m embarrassed to show you the mess but it’s already looking much better than this – now you can see the floor!

I found your blog through Mumsnet, but the funny thing is I have a post on my blog about a competition to win blinds, could be just up your street! And by the way, having moved round Army quarters A LOT (now in our own home) we had to buy new blinds EVERY time we moved. Grrrr…
