crafts handmade London sewing

Where I join a sewing bee (kind of)

I really enjoyed watching The Great British Sewing Bee which started this week, it reminded me a little of Project Runway. I think it’s made by the people behind Bake Off and there’s plenty of room in my life for programmes about makes and bakes. I liked the fact that the contestants all had completely different backgrounds and loved watching how they faced the challenges.

Last week I attended my first proper sewing class at The Make Lounge. I signed up for Learn to Sew: Cushion Cover+Floral Corsage which was suitable for beginners. I’ve been hand sewing for years but really want to use my sewing machine more. I recently upgraded my vintage Singer for a Janome but I just can’t get to grips with it.

The husband looked after the children and I set off for Angel and The Make Lounge. I’d been to a class there before when I dragged my husband along with me to learn how to decorate cupcakes. They offer all sorts of cool classes and I was hoping I would learn some basic skills for my sewing machine.

During the 3 hour class I learnt how to follow a pattern, cut out my fabric, pin and sew a cushion. I chose a lovely pink fabric by Michael Miller for Little Sis and really enjoyed the whole process, especially having a lovely clear table to work on. Unfortunately I didn’t learn anything new but I do have a lovely new cushion for Little Sis’s new bedroom. Now I have taken the next step and arranged a private sewing machine lesson.

This week I guest posted on Pinaddicts about the Peppa Pig biscuits I made for Little Sister’s first birthday. If you love Pinterest and fancy challenging yourself to do more than just pin but also pin, make, blog, link and share then hop on over and join in with the monthly linky.
