As we passed the 100 day milestone to the Olympic Games last week my thoughts turned crafty! What could we make? We applied for tickets for three events and we know we’ve got some tickets, we’re just not sure for what events or if we’re able to take Little Sis as we applied when I was pregnant. We have less than 100 days to find out.
Olympic cupcakes
We haven’t been baking in a while so thought we would make the basic fairy cake recipe from Mary Berry’s Baking Bible, a recent birthday present which I am enjoying working my way through.
Once the cakes were baked and cooled we whipped up a generous batch of butter cream and divided it into five portions. I use Sugarflair which is a great concentrate for food dyeing and grabbed blue, black, red, yellow and green and mixed up small batches of coloured butter cream. Then I put a dollop of butter cream on each of the cakes for our version of the Olympic rings.
A bit of a messy make for the toddler but we did spend all afternoon poking our tongues out and laughing at each other as our tongues were dyed by eating the leftover butter cream. Fun times!

Love the look of these!
Thanks, simple but fun!
Delicious!
The recipe tastes good too 🙂
ohh those look great!! Mmmm!!
Thanks for linking up! I’ll have to get some sugarflair – I often wonder what to use to get such vivid colours. Gorgeous!
So simple but effective! Love them!
Thank you! They tasted pretty good too 🙂
Do you know what, I have a cupboard full of black food colouring (bought on special after Halloween). I couldn’t figure out what I was going to use it for, now I know.
Thank you!
These are gorgoues – I love the vibrancy of the colours as well (I’ve only recently discovered Sugar Flair and it’s saving my butter icing especially the black ones I’ve done recently).
Thank you for linking up to Tuesday Tots this week 😀
