Birds mini art quilt

Posted on June 30, 2011September 15, 2023 by jenny

I signed up to the Summer 2011 Handmade Gift Exchange and exchanged a couple of emails with my partner who seems to have similar interests to me. I’ve been meaning to make something from Scandinavian Stitches for a while, the book is full of amazing projects, and I put my own spin on the birds mini art quilt.

I got to use my favourite bondaweb for the bird applique (which I finally feel I’ve mastered) although missed out the quilting as I didn’t want to ruin the quilt top! I also got to try some freehand machine stitching on my trusty vintage Singer which was fun and gave me some confidence to try more projects in the book.

Linking up to Handmade Thursday, this is also my June Monthly Make

Very lovely – you have done an amazing job especially with the freehand machine stitching. I like birds too, and love how they are flying across your beautiful quilt.

Hello from the anamumdiary – This is my ideal project….I’m desperate to try freehand embroidery, I’ve only had a practice on my Mollys Makes gadget bag, and it all went a bit wonky – yours is extremely neat.
I too, love birds…going to keep a look out for this book!!

It’s a very pretty fabric for the background of your quilt, well done on the free hand stitching.

You definitely have conquered bird applique… love the idea of mini quilts and using free-hand machine embroidery to decorate them.
