decorating with Annie Sloan stencil and chalk paint

Adding detail with Annie Sloan stencils

Posted on July 15, 2016July 16, 2016 by jenny

This week I booked my tickets to The Handmade Fair. I went last year with my sister and we had a brilliant day out so I can’t wait for it this year. Last year I tried some new crafts but also went shopping! We’re both big fans of Annie Sloan Chalk Paints and there was quite a big Annie Sloan stand where I picked up some pots of paint as well as a stencil.

I had read a lot about the stencils and really wanted one to finish off a little project. Years ago we bought a vintage wooden chest of drawers which has been used in different rooms all over our house. We recently placed it in my daughter’s room and gave it a makeover with a coat of Annie Sloan chalk paint in Paris Grey.

It needed a little extra something so when I heard about the new stencil range I knew I wanted to try one. Annie Sloan’s Branches stencil was easily my favourite and I thought it would fit perfectly around the handles of each drawer.

I had a little practise on the bottom of one of the drawers first! The stencil featured two angled laurel stems. If you had a steady hand you could probably add this pattern yourself but I was happy to use a stencil.

We positioned it on the front of the drawer, kept in place with washi tape. We dabbed the paint over the stencil quite quickly, removing the stencil and wiping away any excess paint.

Annie Sloan’s Branches stencil was only £6.99 which I thought was pretty good value. You could use it in lots of different ways but I like the fact it added a little extra touch to a plain chest of drawers.
