Our Advent Box

I’m really looking forward to December 1st as for me, that’s when Christmas really starts. The Christmas shopping is done, food ordered and planned which means we can look forward to the children’s Christmas concerts, making some lovely decorations and visiting Father Christmas in his grotto.

Every year we celebrate Advent with Advent calendars and a book Advent.

This year I have introduced an Advent Box Crate to open on December 1st.

It’s packed full of goodies for us all to enjoy in the run up to Christmas Day. Most importantly it contains our Elf on the Shelf who will be reporting back to Father Christmas on a daily basis. My children love looking for the Elf every morning and we enjoy hiding him around the house.

There are Advent calendars. You may notice the children have 4 between them as we just couldn’t decide! My husband has a Star Wars Lego Advent calendar and I can’t wait help the children open our Playmobil Santa’s Workshop Advent Calendar. We have a couple of Advent candles to light as well as a special festive Yankee candle.

This year I have put the children’s new pyjamas in the Advent Box instead of keeping them for Christmas Eve. My 4 year old has Planes Fire and Rescue ones and the nearly-3 year old has a Frozen nightie, they are so cute I couldn’t wait much longer to give them.

I love this Christmas countdown blackboard. I thought it would be great to cross off a day and help build excitement. It would be fun to make your own but this was only a pound from Poundland!

I’ve added in a Santa key to leave out on Christmas Eve as we have a fake chimney and both children were very concerned how Father Christmas would get in the house. There’s homemade Reindeer food, a copy of Arthur Christmas on DVD, letters from Father Christmas to open, some small Lego decorations to make and a couple of craft kits too. Phew!

Our Advent reading books, 24 festive stories to share, are in a separate box but both children have already said they are looking forward to reading them again. I am so looking forward to opening our Advent Box on Sunday evening. How are you celebrating Advent?
