days out

Fluffy pillows and sweet dreams

We had a really lovely couple of days in Cambridge, mainly thanks to Travelodge who have just opened its largest hotel to date in Cambridge on Newmarket Road, and invited us to visit. Cambridge is the perfect distance from London, about an hour by car, so we jumped at the chance. We always stay at a Travelodge when we visit my sister so I was intrigued by the new look Travelodge rooms.

Before we got to Cambridge we stopped off and visited Wimpole Hall which is a fabulous National Trust property on the outskirts of Cambridge. When we had spent the day enjoying the beautiful house and surroundings we headed to Cambridge. It’s many years since I last visited but I have very fond memories of the city and it didn’t disappoint. The Travelodge was easy to find and we checked in before heading back to Cambridge for a stroll, admiring the colleges and finding something to eat at Jamie’s Italian.

By the time we returned to our room we were more than ready to put our feet up. We had a family room which had plenty of space for two beds for the children. I thought they would enjoy sleeping next to each other but they didn’t and we were very grateful to have the use of a cot bed as well.

The new Travelodge room features an upgraded new luxury king-size Travelodge Dreamer bed (which is deemed in the industry as the ‘Rolls Royce’ of beds). The room also included artwork above the bed, an abstract design featuring relaxing sparkles and shades of blue, tv and tea making facilities. Our room also had a bath which was really handy for helping calm the children down with a relaxing bath before bedtime.

After a great night’s sleep we enjoyed a lovely breakfast which we made sure we paid for when we checked in the day before. The children both ate for free and it was great to start the day with a full tummy!

We would thoroughly recommend this Travelodge. It’s absolutely huge with over 200 rooms but there’s a really big bar and eating area by reception so we never felt confined to our room. We have always found them good value for money but definitely enjoyed the features of their new look. The new look rooms are being rolled out to over 30000 rooms over the next year so soon everyone will be able to experience them.
