What I’m reading: Vintage Revised Jewelry

Moving house has helped me re-discover all of my lovely crafty items which have been packed away during the whole house moving shenanigans. Everything is slowly coming together and I have a long list of things I want to make. A couple of weeks ago I was sent a copy of Vintage Revised Jewelry by Co-Co Nichole Bush to review. I’ve been reading through the 35 projects and already want to try so many of them. They combine my love of recycled treasures and handmade which is a brilliant match for me.

cover of vintage revised jewelryDivided into four sections the projects cover Vintage finds, Charmed, Hardware and Family Treasures. I have to admit I’ve never tried making my own jewellery before but this book gives me the confidence to do so. The author has written “I don’t want this to be another book that you put on your shelf and just take out to look at the pictures from time to time – it’s not for that! Use it as a tool to learn new skills, enhance the ones you already have, and inspire you.” What a great challenge.

The author, Co-Co Nicole Bush, has created 35 step-by-step projects inspired by lost, found and recycled treasures. The great thing about this book is that you can re-use items which is very on trend at the moment! I have boxes of little trinkets donated by my mum or found in charity shops and I can begin to see how I could make my own unique necklaces. The book has a great section on the tools, materials and techniques you need to create your own mini pieces of art and I know I will be able to purchase some findings from my local craft shop.

The majority of the projects are for necklaces which suits me as I love to wear quirky necklaces. There are also projects to make earrings, bracelets, a pin and cuffs.

Vintage Revised Jewelry by Co-Co Nicole Bush is published by CICO Books at £12.99, and is available from all good bookshops or call 01256 302699.
