Tractor Factor, or X Factor for animals

The toddler is very taken with reading at the moment. He has a very full bigbooklittlebookcardboardbox which he goes to frequently, pulls out a book and brings it to me, saying “Read, mummy”. He was sent two new picture books from Macmillan Children’s Books to review.

matildas catWe read Matilda’s Cat by the fabulous Emily Gravett. This is the adorable tale about a young girl and her beloved cat. Perfect if you are looking for a book about children and their relationship with their pets. Fortunately the toddler has two cats which he frequently terrorises so this was a great book to read with him. The illustrations are beautiful and I’m hoping this book will help teach the toddler to love his cats more.

We also received a copy of Farmer Clegg’s Night Out by Peter Bently and Jim Field, the new book from last year’s Roald Dahl Farmer Clegg's night outFunny Prize winners. If you’ve ever wondered what acts would feature if X Factor was set on a farm, this is your book – featuring a judge called Simon, a moonwalking cow, pig mariachi and twin sheep that can’t sing a note (hmmm, wonder who they are modelled on?!).

We loved this book so much. It’s really easy to read and the toddler loved the animals and made plenty of animal noises as we read it. The illustrations are also amazing and you will see new things every time you read the book.
