days out London Olympics

Olympic memorabilia for big kids

Today we all ventured into the West End for a very special event at Hamleys. Hornby, the classic British toy brand and Official London 2012 product supplier, have produced a huge range of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games souvenir products which we were to see.

The train-mad husband and Big Brother loved seeing and playing with the Olympic Train Set and Scalextric Velodrome. Little Sis and I had a good look at the British Classic Vehicles, Destination London 2012 Taxi Collection, mascot key rings, figurines and racers.

As well as looking at the collection of products Little Sis had her photo taken with one of the Olympic mascots who was specially dressed as a Beefeater in honour of the Trooping of the Colour. Big Brother was even lucky enough to win a Track Cycling Destination London 2012 Taxi signed by Lizzie Armitstead.

After the event we enjoyed a good look round Hamleys. The toddler fell in love with the Scalextric set which went round the Hornby train set on the fourth floor and watched it for a good half hour whilst we looked at the nearby display of Olympic products. We were very restrained  (I could have gone crazy in the Lego department!) but bought the toddler the Great British Classic Tube Train for his train collection and two of the limited edition Mini Olympic Torches, one for each child.

The Mini Olympic Torches are really cute and surprisingly heavy. They’ll be going straight into the children’s memory boxes which will be remaining locked until they are 18!

We also liked the Cadbury Chocolate Machine Money Box but they seem to have been selling like hot cakes as we couldn’t find any and we looked in a couple of other shops too. Make sure you get your Olympic memorabilia while you can!

If you would like to purchase any of the Olympic memorabilia from Hornby for yourselves take a look at the official 2012 shop.
