Swimming lessons

Last week Edward and I headed off to our local swimming pool for our first swim together. When I was pregnant I went to antenatal swimming class which I really enjoyed so I wanted Edward to enjoy swimming so we could do something special together. I was nervous about getting to the pool on time, what to wear, changing and whether he would like the water. Fortunately Edward loved his first swim (which was brilliant as we had to pay in advance for 3 months of classes!).

It was nice to be back in the warm water and the instructor got us to do really simple movements so I supported Edward’s head and bum and gently moved him through the water. He really enjoyed kicking his legs and splashing his arms, and didn’t make a fuss when he swallowed some water or got his face wet. I really wish I’d been able to video him in the pool as it was wonderful watching him, he’s a true water baby. The instructor warned us about the effect of the warm water on little tummies but the only side effect was an extremely tired baby who slept as soon as I put him, clean and dry, in his buggy.

Unrelated pic shows Edward in his baby bath in the big bath – the boy likes to splash!

I can’t wait for our next class. We’ve been moved up to the big boy class (6-12 months) and we now have swim pants as well as our little swimmers nappies after witnessing a poo related accident last week (fortunately not us)!
