Fizzy Christmas cookie cutters

Fizzy Christmas cookie cutters

Over the Christmas holidays we were looking for an easy science experiment so we could combine some Christmas fun with hands on learning. The kids loved our Candy Cane experiment and were excited to try another experiment at home. A few years ago we had so much fun making melting love hearts and decided to try something similar for some Christmas science.

We used:

Green food colouring
Vinegar
Christmas cookie cutters

We poured the vinegar into a small container and the children added drops of green food colouring. Then they used a syringe to add small amounts of the liquid to the cookie cutter.

The ingredients started to fizz and bubble as the chemicals in the Bicarbonate of Soda and vinegar reacted.

We observed the reaction by looking and listening. The cookie cutters fizzed quite slowly. The children had fun adding more and more vinegar until we had a lot of fizzy green bubbles!

Sounds like a lot of fizzy fun! I guess you could do it at other times of the year too with different cookie cutters and food colourings.

This sounds like such a fun and fizzy experiment! I might have to give it a try with Jack.
