Decorating our home for Autumn

Decorating our home for Autumn

So far 2020 has been a bit of a write off. When you’re just not sure what’s around the corner I think it makes you appreciate home more than ever. During March and April we spent a lot of time at home and although we’ve been out and about over the Summer months, we are once more back at home during Autumn.

Our week days are busy with school and work but come the weekend and we are ready to be at home and enjoy it. Last weekend we ventured out to pick up some things for the house. It had been months since our last trip to the DIY store but we had a long list of things to buy and little improvements to make to our house.

The living room is where we spend most of our time, when we’re not sleeping, and it’s my favourite room. We had solid wood flooring  put in last year which we all love. I think it helped set the tone for the room and made it into a really cosy space. Thankfully it is light with windows at both ends.

We live in a modern house, and as much as I would love a fire place as the focal point, instead we invested in a modern piece of furniture. This houses the flat screen with space for the kids’ consoles and shelves to display our favourite things.

I love our home to reflect the changing seasons but how do you decorate your home for Autumn? After our recent trip to the pumpkin patch at the weekend our house is now full of pumpkins and squash. These have added a brilliant flash of colour and we picked up so many that they are in the living room, the landing and even by the front door.

There are so many other ways to add a touch of Autumn to your home. Cushions and throws are the most obvious way to add some cosy-ness. I have candles too as the evenings are drawing in, I love to close the shutters and light my candles.

I love the idea of little pumpkins around the place! For me autumnal decorating is all about candles – scented and unscented – we have loads of glass hurricane lamps left from our wedding and I love getting them out each year x
