How to make resin flowers

How to make resin flowers

I feel like it’s hard to find time to make now I’m back at work and the kids are at school again. Life is filled with school runs, after school clubs, washing uniform and doing homework – I didn’t miss any of these during lockdown. I’m happy my children are back at school but life is busy and I like some time to myself!

A few weeks ago I received a lovely resin flower kit which was part of my Cosy Craft Club subscription. I felt a little apprehensive about resin but I suppose that’s why a subscription box can be a good thing, you get to try things you wouldn’t usually.

Dipped resin flowers are made by forming the outer rim of each petal in wire and dipping it in the resin. It sounds so simple and it was. Let me show you how to make resin flowers, step by step.

Equipment to make resin flowers

I used a craft kit from Inion Arts to make 5 petal flowers and it contained two tins of resin (opaque and translucent), 28 gauge wire, 1 bunch of stamens, a roll of green floral tape and a small block of oasis. The only thing I needed to provide was wire clippers.

I cut 5 pieces of wire, about 8″ each. I wrapped one end around a small jar, pinching one end to form a petal shape.

I dipped the petal shape into the resin and placed it in the block of oasis to dry.

It was touch dry in seconds which really surprised me. I did this with all my petals and left them to dry for a few minutes.

Then I was able to form my 5 petal flower. This was definitely the tricky part! I took a couple of stamens and placed them in the centre of the petals, carefully wrapping the floral tape to keep everything together. The great thing about the wire is that you can manoeuvre it a little so you can tweak your flower until you are happy with the shape.

I made a 5 petal flower with both of the resins but the red is definitely my favourite. There was lots of resin left over so I will be looking for other shapes to make with it.

What do you think? Have you every tried crafting with resin before?

These are beautiful and look so easy to make. I have some resin to make coasters with so I’m excited to try that out x

My resin mixture just slides off my wires when I dip them. What could be wrong
