Regular readers will know that every month I challenge myself to make the Mollie Makes magazine cover gift. I’ve subscribed since it first came out and
have had a drawer full of unopened kits – but no more! I’ve been making more time for grown up crafting and I love to make the kits and hopefully try something new.
Mini rainbow hanging
Issue 118 of Mollie Makes landed on my doorstep last week. I was excited to see it but upset that it’s going to be the last issue for a while. The magazine came with a cute plastic canvas rainbow kit which I made straight away! I’ve been crafting a lot since we’ve been in lockdown, small crafts are perfect for me as I try to juggle work, the kids and homeschool.
The ready to stitch mini rainbow kit included 20m of cotton yarn in 5 colours, 8 pastel coloured pom poms, a needle and plastic canvas in the shape of a rainbow. The craft kit was perfectly on trend as we have a window full of rainbows which kids love to count as they walk past our house. I couldn’t wait to add this one to our rainbow window display.
It’s been a long time since I tried sewing plastic canvas. I cut the wool into manageable lengths and used backstitch to create a woven-style design. The rainbow was fun to stitch over an evening, especially as my sister was sewing hers too.
After I had finished the arcs of the rainbow, I stitched on the pom poms and used an extra length of yarn so I could hang the rainbow up. I think this might be my favourite Mollie Makes craft kit in a long time.
