Monday Happy List

Monday Happy List {Week 284}

19 week Bichon Frise puppy

I love to start the week by writing the Monday Happy List. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures – it’s a post I love to write.

Monday Happy List {Week 284}

What a week last week was. Life gets stranger every day. Today the school I work in is closed indefinitely, as is my children’s school. My husband’s office has been closed so we’re all self isolating and trying to keep safe. I’ve decided to keep posting on my blog whilst we’re all at home. My blog has always been my happy space where I record my life and it will carry on being this.

We knew the school’s were going to close last week but we tried to keep everything as normal as possible for our children. They are both sad and confused by what is going on and it was pretty heartbreaking watching them spend their last few days with their friends. They both thrive on the routine of school and their after school activities so the next few weeks and months will be tough on them. Thankfully my Year 5 son has connected with a lot of his friends online so will still be able to talk with them, I’m not sure how we can help my Year 3 daughter.

Last week we celebrated my son’s 10th birthday! Luckily we were organised and had all his birthday presents and a special cake made for him. We have postponed his party but he was still able to take sweets in to school to share with his friends. His favourite gifts were a Lego Star Wars set, the AT-ST Raider, as well as Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order for the PS4. My friend made his Baby Yoda cake which he loved!

It was also my birthday and we celebrated Mother’s Day – yes, everything comes at once in our family. I received some lovely gifts including a sewing book (Patchwork Gifts); The Boy, the Mole, The Fox and The Horse by Charlie Mackesy; the latest Craftpod subscription box; and an Emma Bridgwater mug.

We spent much of the weekend self-isolating at home and building my son’s new bed. He’s had a mid-sleeper for the past few years but really wanted a normal single bed. We couldn’t find any charity shops willing to collect his old bedroom furniture so we’ve dismantled it for now. His new bed feels so small compared to his old one and it’s given him a lot more floor space. We weren’t able to find a desk he liked so we made one from some spare wood. Hopefully he will enjoy his room a lot more now and it will be a great place for him to relax and sleep.

    That’s lovely that your son still got to enjoy his birthday and that cake looks amazing! It must be so tough for kids to properly understand what’s going on x

    The cake looks fantastic, our children are also big fans of routines, so its been challenge planning and organising them into it.

    Happy birthday! Such weird circumstances to celebrate in but I’m glad you managed to find some joy in your day. I think it’s super important to keep writing and keep up a creative outlet during times like this

    Love the birthday cake. It was my 30th birthday on St Patrick’s day and it was a bit of a buzz kill knowing I can’t see any of my friends and family or go out to celebrate anywhere but we are trying to make the best of a bad situation and concentrate on the positives like spending more time together.
