We’ve had some amazing meals out whilst we’ve been away. We have a strict no phones or iPads rule whenever we eat out. I really dislike seeing families eating out where no one talks to each other! This may not work for everyone but it works for us. I always make sure to pack some cards or a small game. We had a really lovely meal at The Golden Fleece in Wells next the Sea (the New York Deli pizza is sooo good!) and I packed a copy of Dot Art: Sticker Safari by Yoni Alter to keep us all busy whilst we waited for our order.

At the forefront of a new wave of activity books, this menagerie of wild animals comes to life through the application of hundreds of colourful stickers. This collection of charming animals provides a satisfying creative experience. Twelve templates of abstract exotic animals—including a giraffe, lion, flamingo, antelope, and meerkat—are paired with hundreds of colourful stickers.
Simply follow the guide and create the images of the animals by applying the stickers to the template. Because the drawings are abstract, there is no “correct” place for each sticker—as long as the right colours are in the right area, the animal will still emerge from the dots. There are additional pages of multicoloured stickers giving you the opportunity to get imaginative and create rainbow-coloured animals.
This freedom to “colour outside the lines” offers the chance to be really creative. Both my children loved the look of this book. Thankfully the pages are easy to take out so I removed the template they wanted to make, as well as the sheet of stickers, and they were both really happy. You can see they wrote their names on their sheets, just in case the other one thought it was theirs!
Both my children love sticker books and I love that this is a little different from the usual book. It’s a great activity to do with your child, but it can also be done independently. Each template took a couple of minutes and, because you can see the results straight away, there is no time to get bored.
