Sun catcher mittens using recycled paper crowns

Sun catcher mittens using recycled paper crowns

I don’t know about you but we went through a lot of Christmas crackers this year. My children just loved them so we had them on Christmas Eve with our North Pole breakfast, Christmas Day and Boxing Day too. My 7 year old decided only he could read out the jokes and my little magpie 6 year old pocketed all the little toys.

I was happy to collect the paper crowns as I knew they would be perfect for a craft I’ve been meaning to try for a while. I love recycling little things and paper crowns are perfect. They are used so briefly but are the perfect craft material.

To make sun catcher mittens you will need:

coloured paper crowns

white card

scissors

contact paper

paper crowns to craft with

I let my 6 year old cut the paper crowns into small pieces. She used scissors but you could also do this by hand. Whilst she did this I drew two mittens on a piece of card and cut them out.

I covered one side of the card with contact paper and left her to craft whilst I cooked dinner. She loves making sun catchers and this kept her absorbed whilst I was busy. She decided to make a pattern with the coloured tissue paper.

Here’s her finished sun catcher. You can see she has created coloured stripes and I love that she came up with the idea independently. She always puts her own little spin on the crafts she makes which is lovely.

I’m hoping to find time for more winter crafts this week. Today is the first day it has been sunny in a while but it’s still really cold and miserable here in the UK!

This looks lovely and does’t require too many different bits and bobs – great idea to recycle the hats!

This is such a good idea to use up some of the leftover items at Christmas. I tend to hoard the “useful” items then never get round to using them so will look at more crafting ideas čÖé
