Simple fingerprint cookies {baking with kids}

Simple fingerprint cookies

My children love baking. I’m keen to encourage them in the kitchen but a kitchen full of cakes is not helpful when you’re following Slimming World! Anyway, my daughter has been asking to bake something for ages so we made a yummy batch of Fingerprint cookies.

These are really quick and simple but fun too! We measured out a simple cookie dough recipe and she helped mix it all together. When the dough was ready we left it to chill for 30 minutes in the fridge.

Then I divided the dough into two and my daughter got to work, taking off small pieces of dough and rolling it into small balls in her hands. We tried to make sure all the balls were roughly the same size, then placed them on a baking sheet on a baking tray.

Then my daughter used her thumb and gently pressed it down in the centre of each dough ball to make fingerprint cookies.

When we had a tray of cookie dough we made sure they were all placed apart from each other and baked them for 20 minutes until they were golden brown.

Each fingerprint cookie was just the right size for the children and they made a good after school snack. We enjoyed ours plain but they would have been pretty good with a spoonful of jam over the fingerprint.
