Celebrating the Spring Equinox with children

Celebrating the Spring Equinox with children

Did you know that March 20th is the Spring or Vernal, Equinox? We’ve noticed that the days are getting longer and today both night and day are equal, hence the Equinox (Latin for equal night). I really wanted to mark it in some way so today we thought we would dig out our seasonal tree and decorate it for Spring.

Our seasonal tree is white, perfect for Spring. We don’t have any Spring decorations, so I looked through our Easter box and found some glass animal ornaments, some pom pom Easter eggs, butterflies and birds. The children loved decorating the tree but I had to emphasise it was a Spring tree, we’re not ready to start thinking about Easter just yet!

The weather has been pretty miserable all day, really overcast with a heavy downpour just as I walked out the door for the school run. We are so ready for more sunshine, longer days and new beginnings.

I’m so grateful for the Equinox as this winter was a tough one for me. I can’t wait for the days to be longer than the nights. Great little craft ideas to do with children! x
