How to make a Pez display case

How to make a Pez display case

I’m a bit of hoarder and can’t help but collect things. Do you remember Pez holders? They are plastic holders which hold little sweetie bricks, and they have a different characters head as the dispenser. I had them when I was growing up, although sadly never kept any of them. Now my children have quite a large Pez dispenser collection and I can’t help add to their collection.

Our Pez dispenser collection has been sitting in a plastic bag, only coming out when the children bought a new dispenser or wanted to eat some sweets. Since we re-decorated our living room I really wanted to display them. I’ve been trying to find a Pez dispenser case or some way of displaying them but found nothing. So it seemed sensible to design my own.

How to make a Pez display case

We chose to make a Pez display case using pine measuring 40ml x 10ml from Wickes, this was roughly based on the largest Pez holder in our collection. We cut the wood into three long lengths and two shorter lengths for the frame.

We used 6ml dowels for the joints, these were made by drilling half way through the sides and cut to length.

A dowling jig was used to ensure the dowels were all accurate. When we were happy with the basic frame it was glued using PVA wood working glue, then clamped together and left overnight to dry. The next day the frame was sanded and any gaps filled in.

The frame was completed with some beading to make the edges of the frame look finished. It was given two coats of Broken White Pinty Plus Chalk Paint. This is touch dry in 20 minutes.

We fixed the Pez display case to the wall using brass mirror plates and then I placed our Pez collection inside.

This is brilliant. I’ve always had a soft spot for Pez dispensers and I’m impressed you have managed to collect enough to make a display!

Could you share the dimensions of the wood pieces? My father in law wants to make a display case for my son’s pez collection but we’re struggling to find any suggested dimensions.
