Creating the perfect packed lunch for happy tummies

Creating the perfect packed lunch for happy tummies

We’re a family who love being outdoors and often take a picnic out with us. I like to know exactly what my children are eating and the whole family seem to enjoy the way I make lunch!

My youngest started school last month and has been taking a packed lunch every day. She loves having a lunch break with all her friends and thankfully her lunch box is always empty at the end of the day. I’ve had a few years’ practice perfecting the art of the packed lunch and have become quite quick at whipping up a healthy packed lunch that gives her energy to cope with the school day. My daughter loves small portions of different foods so a bento-style lunch is perfect for her.

BEAR Yoyos

I always make sure to include a pack of her favourite BEAR Yoyos. They are available in a range of yummy  recipes including; Strawberry, Apple, Blackcurrant, Mango, Raspberry and Pineapple and are perfect for keeping little tummies full, which is just what both my children need. They are made of 100% pure fruit, gently baked and high in fibre. They also count as 1 of your 5 a day and are a great way of keeping children happy and healthy.

Babybel cheese ladybird

As well as a delicious and colourful BEAR Yoyos fruit snack, I make sure to include a selection of my daughter’s favourite foods. Today I wanted to carry on with the nature theme and included a Babybel cheese made into a ladybird – I just removed some of the red outer shell and added food pick eyes. I knew this would make her smile when she opened her lunchbox!

butterfly ham sandwich

I made her favourite ham sandwich into a butterfly shape, an orange and a little pot full of raisins. She loves her fruit and vegetables so I included cucumber slices cut into flowers and some tomatoes. Again, I used some nature-themed food picks to make the tomatoes look like flowers.

balanced packed lunch

You may notice I have a bento tab up there on my menu bar as I’ve always enjoyed making creative lunches for my little ones. I have built up a selection of food picks and boxes but you can create lunches using supplies you already have. I used cookie cutters to cut out my shapes, and cocktail sticks work just as well as bento picks.

I now want to make fun lunches with Babybels, assuming they don’t end up being eaten first x
