Baking with Betty Crocker

Last night I attended a really fun baking with Betty Crocker class at the Central Street Cookery School. I love Betty Crocker products, they’re really great for making with the children, and the whole family adores eating them, so I was excited to learn some new tips and tricks.

Betty CrockerAfter hearing a little about the brand and products (which include cake mixes, icings and pancakes) we were introduced to the newest product in the range – Vanilla Icing and Rainbow Sprinkles.

Instead of just making a cake we mixed things up a little. First up was a Swirly Snowflake Loaf Cake made with Betty Crocker Classic Vanilla Cake Mix and Betty Crocker Red Velvet Cake Mix. After making up the packet mixes we added the Vanilla Cake Mix (with the Rainbow Sprinkles mixed in) into a loaf tin and swirled in the Red Velvet Cake Mix. We decorated it with Betty Crocker Vanilla Icing and a little red jam which looked like flowers, and added snowflakes and holly leaves made from sugar paste. The end result was a really lovely looking cake and when it was cut the two cake mixes looked quite effective swirled together. Not bad for 2 hours work.

Swirly snowflake loaf cake While the loaf cake was in the oven we used Betty Crocker Devil’s Food Cake Mix to make Christmas cupcakes. These were decorated with Vanilla Icing and green food colouring. We piped the Vanilla Icing on to the cooled cupcakes and decorated them with sprinkles so they looked like Christmas trees and wreaths.

Our final bake was Crunchy Christmas Brownie Houses. We used the Betty Crocker Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix which me made, baked, then crumbled into small pieces. We mixed it into the Betty Crocker Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix for a really delicious crunchy brownie mash up. When cooled we used a house shaped cookie cutter to cut out a house shape piece and decorated it with Vanilla Icing and sprinkles.

IMG_7550Everyone knows Betty Crocker never fails to produce great cakes but I had never thought of experimenting with the different products to make even more delicious bakes. As well as taking home all the above yummy cakes which I made last night I was also given a goody bag containing a couple of cake mixes and the new Vanilla Icing and Rainbow Sprinkles. I can’t wait to get baking with the children next week!
