homemade homestyle vintage

A place to dream

We spent the weekend doing house stuff. We are hosting the family for Christmas and had a panic that we didn’t have enough seats for everyone so spent the weekend choosing a new one. This meant we started thinking about choosing a colour for the living room, buying a new rug and putting up some shelves so my collection of vintage yachts can finally go on display.

We also promised my 4 year old that after he started school we would buy him a new bed. He’s been in his cot since he was 6 months old and it converted into a lovely cot bed which he’s finally outgrown. We’ve been doing a little research online and found some great inspiration on this site.

So far we’ve painted his room blue and today we ordered him a lovely new bed. He enjoyed looking at beds, and having a sneaky bounce round on some of them, and I think he’s going to love his new big boy bed.

I’d like to make his bedroom special for him though so I need to get my thinking cap on. When I think back to my own room I remember planning it with my mum. She made my curtains and matching duvet and there was plenty of room for my toys and it felt lovely, which is what I want to recreate for him. At the moment my son is convinced he wants a Disney Planes theme. The article on Betta Living suggests treating them to something they’ll remember so I guess I’d better start a Pinterest board for inspiration!

wooden bedroom shelves

The walls definitely need a little something. I don’t quite have the talent to paint a mural but I seem to have developed a passion for painting anything wooden with Annie Sloan paint. My husband made a beautiful wooden shelf for our sons bedroom. It currently houses his collection of Happy Meal toys (don’t judge me!) but I think it might be fun to jazz it up with some colour to complement the blue of the walls. If that’s not enough then I can see myself painting clouds on the ceiling so he can lie back and dream of flying with his favourite planes!

I love the idea of storing things on shelves, though dusting is not something I am a fan of doing x
