Bahlsen Book Club book review

A Single Breath by Lucy Clarke

I’ve really got back into reading this year. I can measure the summer holidays by both the quilts I’ve made and the books I’ve read which is a great feeling for me!

I’m part of the Bahlsen Book Club and the latest book I was sent to read was A Single Breath by Lucy Clarke. I was also sent some yummy Bahlsen biscuits which are the perfect accompaniment for a cup of team and a sit down whilst I read a chapter or two.

a_single_breathThere were so many times I thought about telling you the truth, Eva. What stopped me was always the same thing…

When Eva’s husband Jackson tragically drowns, she longs to meet his estranged family. The journey takes her to Jackson’s brother’s doorstep on a remote Tasmanian island. As strange details about her husband’s past begin to emerge, memories of the man she married start slipping through her fingers like sand, as everything she ever knew and loved about him is thrown into question. Now she’s no longer sure whether it was Jackson she fell in love with – or someone else entirely…

This story really gripped me so I read it in a couple of days. I’m not sure I particularly liked the main character Eva but the story just drew me in. There are so many twists and turns in the story I wanted to keep reading it so I could find out what happened.

Set in London initially, the story quickly moves to Tasmania. I’ve never been but the author painted an amazing picture of the place and I’d love to go and visit (especially with the dreary weather we’re currently experiencing!).

I liked the subtle clues that are woven through the story which kept me guessing to the final outcome. The book is a great fast-paced thriller with a touch of romance and I can’t wait to read other books by this author.

Sounds like a really intriguing read. I love a good thriller to keep me occupied especially if I have tea and biscuits to keep me going. Will add this to my ‘to read’ pile x
