Wild Olive’s Spring Stitching Club

I like nothing more than having a couple of sewing projects on the go. I’ve been working on Wild Olive’s Spring Stitching Club for a while and thought I’d write about my progress to spur me on to finish it.

The Stitching Club in a Seasonal sewing club where you receive a weekly email with an embroidery pattern. Over the weeks the individual pieces are made into something bigger, such as a doll quilt or cushion cover. So far I’ve only completed the Summer Stitching Club but I have the Autumn and Winter patterns too which I will get round to.

The Spring Stitching Club has been lots of fun. I guess my embroidery skills have improved with each week and I adore the style of the patterns.

It’s the perfect project for picking up when you have the time. I tried to embroider one pattern a week and make the plain hexagons for the flowers too. I love English Paper Piecing!

I couldn’t get the fabric that Mollie used as she’s in the US so instead I chose a really pretty vintage-style fabric from my local fabric shop and co-ordinating solids in yellow, orange and blue. The embroidered hexies are all on linen.

This is the central panel all embroidered by hand and hand-pieced which I’m pretty pleased with.

You may notice there is one linen hexagon missing as I managed to lose my remaining linen but thankfully I managed to find it yesterday. I just need to add two rows of linen hexagons to the long edges, a fabric panel to each side, the batting and bind it. I hope I can show you the finished piece soon.

I’ve already signed myself up to the next Stitching Club which is the 50 States Stitching Club. It looks hugely ambitious for me but I fell in love with the pattern which uses pentagons for the basis of stars!  If you want to find out more about it and read Mollie’s lovely blog just click here.

Wow! How beautiful! Very inspiring! Wouldn’t mind having a go at that myself.
