An Orla Kiely nursery?

Tots100 and Ratedpeople.com have challenged us to makeover a room in the most creative way we can think of. The timing is perfect, given as how I have moaned before about our lack of space. Our 10 month old still sleeps with us and I haven’t enjoyed sleeping through the night since she was born.

So, our plan. Our front bedroom was originally two bedrooms but converted to one when the loft was converted and a staircase put in. My husband works from home so the room is his office and our guest bedroom. We would like to turn it back into two rooms so my husband has a separate office and the 10 month old gets a room of her own. Simples.

The main cost would be putting up a stud partition wall, a new door into the new room, removing the existing radiator and replacing it with two smaller ones, then re-decorating the two rooms.

My husbands office area is already fitted out with an ancient Herman Miller, desk and shelves. I don’t think he would want to change anything.

However, the 10 month old only has a cot!

It’s no secret I have a passion for Orla Kiely. I’ve been looking through a couple of her books for inspiration as I would love the chance to give her a beautiful bedroom. I would keep her room simple, but stylish.

The room would be smallish but very light so I would like there to be black out blinds to ensure she sleeps well all year round and toy and book storage. We love the original features which include stripped wooden floorboards and fireplace so would just add a large rug and some colourful framed prints, perhaps from her favourite Orla Kiely board books. Check out my special Tots100 Home Renovation challenge Pinterest board to see some of the prints and patterns I would love to see.

I would absolutely love to win this competition. Re-arranging this room would change our lives and mean we can stay and enjoy our beautiful house and maybe, just maybe, I could get a decent nights sleep.
