How to make a clock from a vintage tin

In case you haven’t guessed I have boxes of vintage treasures picked up from car boot sales, jumble sales and charity shops. I *try* to have a project in mind before buying anything as we are rather pressed for space in our little terraced house.

One of my favourite collections is vintage tins of all shapes and sizes. These were the first thing I collected and I can’t resist picking up unusual ones when I see them. My latest project used one of the vintage tins found beneath our stairs which I wrote about last year.

I love this vintage Walters’ Palm Toffee tin but it wasn’t in perfect condition, certainly not nice enough to display on a shelf. I thought it would make a great clock for our lounge so bought a clockwork kit from the internet. All I needed to do was mark the center of the lid of the tin and drill a hole large enough to hold the clock workings.

Then I attached the clockwork kit and put the lid back on the tin.

Voila, a really simple little make. I’m going to see if I can get hold of a smaller clockwork kit as I think small tins would also make great little clocks for a craft space (not that I’ve got one, yet!). You could also bring new life to vintage fabrics in embroidery hoops, old plates or trays too. The possibilities are endless!
