My changing bag isn’t working for me

My changing bag isn’t working for me. Not when I need another couple of bags to simply leave the house. Today we decided to go on a family shopping trip to Westfield Stratford, the super duper new shopping centre next to the Olympic site. I’m gradually getting used to getting us all out of the door but find I take a silly amount of ‘stuff’ with us.

First up there’s my faithful old Orla Kiely changing bag, stuffed full of old receipts, my wallet, phone, packs of tissues and broken pencils. The only useful thing it actually contains are numerous sizes of nappies and a pack of wipes.

Big Brother has his own bag, containing a drink, snacks, a dummy (just in case!), cutlery (in case we eat out), Calpol, Tixylix, nasal spray, syringe – all in his new In The Night Garden lunchbag.

Little Sis also has a bag containing a silly number of bottles (just in case), formula container, Gaviscon, dummy, multiple bib and muslins s in case of projectile vomiting.

Just as we walked out the door a handful of choos choos were added to keep Big Brother entertained on the journey and a pack of tissues to stem the ever running tide of snot coming from his nose.

Fortunately my husband travels light with only his wallet and iPhone. He’d already packed the tank of a pram which is our Phil & Ted’s, with extra blankets (just in case).

Sometimes it feels like we’re moving home and this was just a simple shopping trip! Roll on the days when the family is out of nappies, bottles and can walk unaided! The shopping bag is too small for our needs and it’s a real pain not being able to hang a changing bag from the handle. If anyone has any helpful suggestions of changing bags which are big enough to contain everything needed for a baby and toddler please leave me a comment.

I feel your pain! I think changing bags are like handbags- no matter how small or large I always manage to run out of space.
I find myself going out with a bag of ‘changing bag’ stuff and then these cute ‘charlotte’ bags from amazon- one for bottles and one for food.
I too am looking forward to the walking, potty trained days… when I will get frustrated with how they run off in different directions!

My changing bag is in a terrible state. The lining is ripped in the main and side compartments and the zip will not close. This is due to overfilling as, like you, I take many things (just in case). I also have several smaller bags for lunch, bottles, etc. Hopefully someone will post about a super changing bag that we can all benefit from. Thanks for letting me know that I am not the only one who feels like a packhorse, everytime we leave the house!
