Cath Kidston Gingerbread house finds handmade vintage

Vintage child’s boat

I have a favourite shop in Totnes, Devon, which is stuffed full of vintage treasures. On our last visit I picked up a lovely vintage Star Yachts boat. Only the wooden hull remained, the sails, wooden masts and fittings were gone.

Star Yachts was founded just after the First World War by Franz Marie Denye, a Belgian refugee who had fled Belgium at the beginning of the war. Originally a builder of full size ships, he decided that models would provide a livelihood for him and his family. The works site was compulsorily purchased to clear the site for new development in 1990 and the family closed the business.

The boat has been sitting on a shelf in Edward’s nursery for months, looking kind of cool but definitely lacking something. So I bit the bullet and made some reversible Cath Kidston sails! The rigging isn’t perfect but hopefully adds to its’ charm.

Did I do the right thing in adding sails, or should I have left it alone? Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

I’m linking up with Flea Market Finds, Magpie Monda, Thrift Share Monday and Transformation Thursday – please follow the links for more lovely vintage discoveries.
