baby maternity leave nursery

What a difference a day makes

Yesterday we visited a nursery and a childminder. Today I asked to return to work part-time. How did this come about when just a few weeks ago I had decided I didn’t want to return to work?

After speaking to  friend I realised that it would be easier to return to work and see how I felt rather than not go back but have to find a new job if I was bored/needed the money.  I only decided this over Christmas so we’ve spent the last few weeks contacting nurseries and childminders who’ve all got long waiting lists. I wondered if we would find anywhere suitable for Edward but yesterday we did.

So I now feel as though I’ve set off a chain of events and life has gone a bit out of my control. I’ve loved spending every second with him and I wonder if I’m stupid to give this up. The nursery had a lovely atmosphere and I know he’ll benefit from playing with the other children. I just can’t help but feel it’s all for his benefit though and not mine! Is that what makes a good mum?

My love you have to do what is best for both of you. Think of it this way if you go back to work and you dont enjoy it then go back to being a stay at home mum again (if you can), then you can take your little one to some mother and toddler groups so he will still benefit from interaction with other children.

You’ll find as soon as you get back to work that you’ll enjoy being back in the company of grown ups and having conversations that don’t include the words poo or baby puke! 😉
Hattie has done so well at nursery and loves the other kids and staff. She’s a confident and cheeky little monkey!

Is that what makes a good Mum? – you will be struggling to answer that question along with all us other mothers for the rest of your days lol

It’s never easy making these decisions and everyone you speak to will have a different opinion of what is right or wrong. You just have to go with your gut instinct and see how things go. You just have to remember that nothing is set in stone and you can always have a re-think if things don’t work out well.

    Best of Luck

I saw your tweet the other day – so I take it they agreed to reduced hours?

That’s great, not many employerds consider it, even though they are meant to. I think your friend was right, at least this way you’ve kept your options open better. If if doesn’t work out, you can go back to how you were, whereas if you give up your job then find you want/need to go back to work, starting again at a new job would probably be much harder.

    Good luck x

Being a Good Mum means everybody being happy and your friend was right, going back and seeing how you feel is much better than not going back and realising you want to go back!
