Eau Thermale Avène review and giveaway

Eau Thermale Avène is a unique French skincare brand dedicated to each level of skin sensitivity; from sensitive, intolerant to allergic.  Each product contains the Avène Thermal Spring Water, a unique ingredient whose properties have been endorsed by dermatologists over the years.

The range includes really gentle body care products suitable for both mum and baby, and even for use on eczema-prone skin. My 8 month old has really sensitive skin so I was interested in trying out the range. We’ve been using a couple of the products over the last few weeks and found the Avène Cold Cream Cleansing Bar and the TriXera, which is an emollient cream, has left her skin lovely and soft. The Thermal Water Spray has many uses but we found it great on mild nappy rash and also on sunburn.

Giveaway

I have one set of Avène products worth £35 to giveaway to a reader of the gingerbread house. The set includes the Avène Cold Cream Cleansing Bar, Water Spray and TriXera, along with an Avène branded baby towel and are products in the range suitable for mum and baby and also gentle enough to be used on eczema. Four lucky runners up can receive a Water Spray and towel.

Review: method cleaning products

I seem to be having more baking disasters than I do successes lately. Today I thought I would make some gingerbread men from my new book – Mary Berry’s Baking Bible. Everything was going really well, the mixture smelt delicious but when I turned it out it just wouldn’t come together. Instead of gingerbread men I made big fat gingerbread cookies which tasted good, it was just a shame about their appearance.

I made quite a mess in the kitchen as the sticky mixture seemed to get everywhere – I might have been a little frustrated!

My messy kitchen gave me a good opportunity to try out three products* from method, pioneers of planet-friendly and design-driven home, laundry and hand wash products. The powerful new formulas contain only non-toxic, bio-degradeable ingredients and even the bottles are made from 100% recycled plastic!

method

First of all I tried the kitchen cleaner which had a gentle clementine fragrance and gave such good results I went slightly mad and used it on the oven and kitchen cupboards too. Then I used the glass cleaner with a light mint fragrance with similar good results. Finally I used the multi-surface cleaner in the bathroom which had a lovely french lavender fragrance. Each bottle contains 828ml and has a RRP £3.06.

The clever powergreen technology uses plant-based solvents and surfactants which are optimised to tackle tough soils specific to each cleaner type meaning you can clean effectively without using dirty solvents! Perfect for use around the house as they are definitely kinder to the environment and will hopefully have a positive effect on my children’s eczema.

Method products are available at major supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Waitrose as well as smaller independents.

(CLOSED) Products for treating eczema

*****the competition has now closed and the winner notified*****

As Edward has suffered from eczema since birth I’m proud to help spread awareness of National Eczema Week 2011 which this year runs from 10 to 18 September. National Eczema Week was set up by the National Eczema Society as a way to make people aware of what eczema is and how it can affect sufferers on a day-to-day basis.

We use a variety of products to help keep Edward’s skin soft as there are a broad range of brands, including Dexeryl, Barefoot, Avène and A-Derma, available for treating the skin condition in both children and adults. We were recently sent a couple of new to us products to try out:

A-Derma Exomega Cleansing Oil

This is a lovely gentle cleanser, which cleanses the skin without drying, thanks to its soap-free formula. It is specifically formulated for very dry and eczema prone skins. The cleansing oil is suitable for both the face and body and doesn’t leave your skin feeling tight or too clean as some products do.

Barefoot’s Daily Rich Body Lotion

Contains a great blend of natural ingredients to help soothe extremely dry and sensitive skin. It’s rich without being greasy and free from petrochemicals including paraffin, parabens & SLS, artificial colours and fragrances, and animal ingredients.  It was lovely to apply (I used it on myself too!), nourishes the skin and leaves it feeling really soft.

Giveaway

Readers of the gingerbread house can now try some of these brands for themselves as I have an eczema survival kit to giveaway containing: Avene Thermal Water Spray, A-Derma Cleansing Oil, Dexeryl Cream and Barefoot SOS Barrier Hand Cream.

To enter simply leave me a tip for looking after your skin.
